The history of the Sydney Harbour Bridge:
People have
planned to build the bridge in 1815, but they made the design of the bridge
finally in 1890. In 1928 begins the construction project, therefor demolished
800 homes. The construction of the bridge was led by Bradfield. The bridge is
opened in 1932. Captain Francis de Groot did it on a horse with a sword, and he
cut the ribbon. On 19 January 1932 were ride the first test train and a steam
locomotive safe over the bridge. On 14 March 1932 were issue three stamps
commemorating from the opening from the bridge. One postage stamp cost five
shillings, that cost about a few hundred right now. On New Year's Day and
Australia Day there was beautiful firework from the arc. In 1958 were removed
the rails and they were substitute by two extra lanes. In 1982 celebrated they
the 50th birthday from the opening. Again were the bridge the whole
day closed for vehicles and pedestrians. In 1988 made the people a design for a
tunnel in order to fill the bridge to. The Sydney Harbour Tunnel was done for
traffic in 1992. During the Olympics in Sydney in September was the bridge
ornate with Olympic rings.
The design was made by Jack
Lang, who was the president of New-South-Wales. He didn't want to make the
bridge only for an easier way to go to
the North , he also wanted to make the bridge because of the job creation
project.
The special things of the design are that it is the
highest arch bridge of the world. It is also the longest bridge of the
world. Also the view is amazing, and it
shows the most important things of Sydney.
The building style is arch
bridge.
The
most of the arch bridges are made of steel and reinforced.
